The whole point of all of this is communication.

Sharing my skills with others has always been part of my practice, enabling other people who love clay to learn the skills that that can turn disbelief (“I can do THAT?!” ), into the amazement of achieving something that seemed unattainable.

This overwhelmingly applies to throwing pots on the wheel . . . .

I now teach solely at Coombe Farm Studios in Devon, because the space and facilities there are exceptional and totally unique. The family run centre is located in a sheltered and quiet valley, which gives the peace and detachment from working lives that people so often need. Courses are for a week, or for a long weekend, and both residential and non residential. Students come from across the UK, from around the world, and from the local village. Many return year after year.

I teach the simple skills of hand building and decorative use of clay slips to all levels, from complete beginners to professional ceramicists who want to explore different techniques.

There’s a lot of laughter! It’s ceramics for the soul – come and join us.

Following the success of this new course in 2018, The Art of Attention will be again be offering three of our loves: pottery, drawing and yoga. This special week makes space for the three practices, which in turn guide and inform one another. Led by tutors who are experts in their fields, Laurel Keeley (Ceramics), Laurie Steen RWA (Drawing) and Lauren Hill (Yoga) who have a wealth of experience and have also had a long relationship with Coombe where we run separate courses. We have developed a passion for each other’s work and a desire to spend more time doing it, so it came to pass, after lots of conversations, that we decided to design a course working together, and sharing with others.

Each tutor will lead their practice, and join as the participant in the others.

All levels (in yoga or art) oh so very welcome.
